Not just another “OCEAN’S” heist movie … this heist is organized by Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), the estranged sister of now-deceased legendary conman Danny Ocean.
After serving five+ years in prison having been set up by a former boyfriend, upon her release Debbie is determined to do what she’s good at. With a well-thought out plan, she puts together a team of the best women in their fields of criminal activity, to pull off the job – the job being to steal a necklace worth over 150 million dollars.
Locked away in a vault, the first part of the scheme is to convince Cartier to loan the diamond necklace to heiress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) for her to wear at the annual star-studded New York Met Gala. That is where the heist takes place.
With a cast of beautiful women, the New York Met as the location, I expected glamour and style, gorgeous jewelry and extravagant gowns. Visual enthrallment. I wanted very much to love this movie. Yes, there were a few glib lines and funny interactions, but for a heist movie, OCEAN’S 8 had no excitement
Disappointed that there was very little of what I anticipated, a joyful and suspenseful ride, I asked several other movie-goers what they thought. They voiced exactly what I felt. Too bad. This movie has so much promise.
