Vicky Tiel: An Original Fashion Influencer
Vicky Tiel’s journey is nothing short of iconic. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in 1964, she and her best friend, Mia Fonssagrives went to Paris. Within weeks, they were discovered by legendary couturier Louis Féraud, leading to their designs being featured in his couture show. The Mia-Vicky mini dress dominated the fashion scene. While dancing at a Paris nightclub, they were approached to design costumes for “What’s New Pussycat”.

During filming, Vicky caught the eye of none other than Elizabeth Taylor. Enchanted by Vicky’s lace mini dress, her husband at the time, Richard Burton, commissioned a custom pearl-adorned lace mini for their wedding anniversary. Vicky and Liz became friends. And with her backing, Vicky co-founded the Mia -Vicky boutique in Paris. The boutique introduced the world to fashion staples like the wrap dress, caftans, string bikinis, and micro minis. Over her career, Vicky designed costumes for 12 films, blending cinematic glamour with cutting-edge fashion.

Couture Excellence and Perfume Legacy
In the 1980s, Bergdorf Goodman opened a dedicated couture salon, and in 1989 Saks Fifth Avenue launched her first fragrance, “Vicky Tiel.”

From Runways to Bookshelves
Vicky’s memoir, “It’s All About the Dress: What I Learned in Forty Years About Men, Women, Sex and Fashion,” published in 2011, offers readers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her extraordinary life. Her second book, “The Absolute Woman: It’s All About Feminine Power,” includes lessons from the powerful women she dressed.
A Lasting Legacy Her artistic talents extend beyond fashion, with her illustrations and gowns exhibited in museums across France and the U.S. Her sculpted fragrance bottles are displayed in the Perfume Museum in Grasse, France. And her new adventure includes having the sketches she did for the many celebrities she’s designed clothing for, printed on tee-shirts.
