Changing Horses THE NASHVILLE SESSIONS – Frairgate Records

Do not mistake this as a country album because of the title.
Changing Horses are a British Indie-folk duo comprising Richard Birtill (vocals, guitar) and Francesca Cullen (vocals, violin, mandolin, melodeon). To me they are a mixture of the Buzzcocks, Darren Hayman and Mika.
Tracks such as the quirky Let’s Go Dancing and the nervy Tom Brown School Days definitely hark to Mika, whereas I Don’t Need It is more Buzzcocks. The rat-a-tat-tat lyrics and wonderful scratchy guitar licks of 1 Million Screaming Angels is where the Darren Hayman similarity comes in.
This 6-track mini album is an interesting introduction to this duo and their music, that deals with some macabre themes, at times in an ironic way.
The Jury is still out on this one, but it has some good moments.
