We were invited to the screening of DOPE, playing in the movie theater two blocks from our home. No hassle, and no expectation of staying. We sat in aisle seats for a quick getaway if need be. We stayed for the entire film.

We laughed, we learned about the culture, and we rooted for the three geeky teenagers from the tough streets of Inglewood, California, to ultimately make the right choices. After all, the young people who survive these gang-ridden streets walk a fine line in terms of their survival method – crime or college.
While some of the situations were over the top, the three friends were genuine, extremely likable, talented, goofy and smart. As a white woman old enough to be their very young grandmother, I totally enjoyed this movie.
Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Kimberly Elise, A$AP Rocky, Blake Anderson, Keith Stanfield, Chanel Iman, Quincy Brown and Zoe Kravitz, with Pharrell Williams and Sean Combs among the many talented producers.
