Tim Disney, grandnephew of Walt Disney, grandson of Roy Disney (Walt’s brother and business partner), and son of Roy E. Disney, who played an important role in the revival of Disney animation. Tim studied fine arts at Harvard and later worked at Walt Disney Animation during the studio’s extraordinary creative resurgence in the 1980s. He then went out on his own.
Tim became an independent filmmaker, writer and producer. He worked on feature films and documentaries. He has also spent years in technology and business. He was chairman and CEO of Virtual World Entertainment, an early pioneer in virtual-reality entertainment and 3-D simulation. He founded The Adamma Foundation and co-founded World Connect, which provides small grants to business startups and public-health projects in developing countries.
And with JC Lacek and illustrator Vincent J. Dubourg, Tim wrote a book: “The A.R.C.”, a graphic satirical novel about “Amazonian Recombinant Cytoneuropathy” – a fictional virus that is activated when people lie.
During their conversation, Stewart asked Tim some very personal questions – “What was it like growing up Disney?” “How did your father react to your decision to do your own thing?” “Having accomplished so much, what’s your definition of success?” “What motivated you to write The A.R.C. – a story that combines science fiction, satire, dark humor and social commentary about a fictional virus that is activated when people lie?” “How did you feel when you held the published book in your hands?”
And Tim answered them!
