It’s no secret. Stewart and I love to eat. Although we try to keep it “healthy” most of the year, when the Americas Food & Beverage Show & Conference takes over the Miami Beach Convention Center – we know no bounds. We taste EVERYTHING! The special treat, however, is having the opportunity to talk with the enthusiastic men and women from around the world who bring their delicacies and beverages to this industry marketplace in the hope they will be sold in USA supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, and Bars.
As we wandered through the three massive exhibition halls, zigzagging down endless aisles lined with tables overflowing with foods, beverages, snacks, and sweets, it felt like a whirlwind tour of the world’s cultures on a plate. We tasted empanadas from Venezuela, Cuba, and Colombia—crispy, flaky, and bursting with savory fillings. Then came the hearty sausages from Hungary and Germany, grilled to smoky perfection. We couldn’t resist the classic American hot dogs, hamburgers, lamb chops and steaks.
The international flair kept coming—tacos, enchiladas, rich mole sauce, and even seasoned grasshoppers from Mexico. Italy represented with pizza and pasta, while Canada brought its famous bacon. France gave us cheeses, both the real deal and plant-based alternatives. We tried tofu from Chicago, Chinese rice noodles in a tangy sauce, fresh Japanese sushi, and Maine seafood. For comfort foods, there were waffles and breads. And spices from India and Mexico.
Sweet tooth alert! Turkish Delight chewy candy and Dubai chocolates, cookies in every flavor imaginable, decadent cakes, creamy ice creams, and an array of candies had us in pure over-eating bliss.
These were just a sampling of the treasures on display. And thank you Irene Sperber for capturing some tasty treats we missed in our eating frenzy.
