Usually crowded with tourists and visitors, on Thursday, April 4th, Lincoln Road drew a more local gathering of residents, neighbors, families, and friends.
First, there was a Gallery reception. The Bel-Air Fine Art Pop-Up Gallery opened its doors for #ThePopCollection featuring the work of French artist Peppone.
When I go to an art exhibit, notable for me is the initial impression I have when I walk into the space. This art got me grinning from ear to ear!
Inspired by childhood cartoons, classic movies and comic books, Peppone’s sculptures and colorful paintings feature figures in the world of animation and pop culture, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snoopy, Hulk and Popeye. Cute at first sight, but when you look closely, they tell stories. Peppone’s work inspires conversation and is fun.
Stewart and I left the Gallery smiling as we walked over to another Lincoln Road event, Pride Lights The Night. This being International Pride Month, in addition to a lighting ceremony, a few poignant speeches, music and performances, an installation was introduced. “PRIDE247” is a reconstruction of the LGBTQ pride flag using individual polypropylene webbing straps that weave through the palm trees that hover over Lincoln Road’s Euclid Oval.
The subtle message is “a reminder that we are individuals who together weave the fabric of our society.” This is the artistic vision of AMLgMATD, a Miami-based collaboration between Laz Ojalde and Natalie Zlamalova.
… and while we were on Lincoln Road, we ran into some friends, checked out the newly opened shops (including the latest “Pizza by the slice” restaurant), and enjoyed the glorious weather.
