Ron Magill has spent his life doing what many people only dream of—standing eye-to-eye with wildlife and telling their stories to the world. Known to millions as the passionate public voice of Zoo Miami, Ron’s career blends animal advocacy, education, photography, and media in a way that has made him one of the most recognizable zoo professionals in the United States.
Ron’s journey with Zoo Miami began in 1980, when the zoo was still known as Miami MetroZoo. Fueled by a lifelong fascination with animals, he started at the zoo as a Zookeeper and communications specialist. He became the bridge between the animals and the public—explaining conservation, interpreting animal behavior, and helping people understand why wildlife protection matters.
Over the decades, his responsibilities grew along with his reputation. Ron eventually became the zoo’s Communications Director and later its Goodwill Ambassador, a position that perfectly matches his larger-than-life enthusiasm for animals. In this role, he serves as the public face of Zoo Miami—appearing on television, speaking at events, hosting educational programs, and advocating for conservation initiatives both locally and internationally.

Yet long before social media and viral videos, Ron was an accomplished wildlife photographer and videographer whose work has taken him to some of the most remote corners of the planet. From African savannas to Asian jungles to the rainforests of South America, he has documented animals in their natural habitats, often in challenging and sometimes dangerous conditions. His photographs and video footage have been featured in publications, documentaries, and conservation campaigns around the world. His mission has always been to inspire empathy for wildlife—it is alive, vulnerable, and worth protecting.
Over time, Ron’s television appearances and community outreach have made him a familiar and trusted voice on wildlife issues. Whether he is rescuing an injured animal, explaining the behavior of a big cat, or sharing breathtaking footage from the field, he speaks with a contagious sense of wonder that reflects a lifetime spent close to nature reminding us that the fate of animals and the future of humanity are deeply intertwined.
