Meet Dr. Lynette Long: A Trailblazer for Women’s Visibility and STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
Dr. Lynette Long is a psychologist, educator, mathematician, and passionate advocate for gender equality. Her mission is simple but powerful: to make women visible.
With an impressive academic background that includes degrees in zoology, chemistry, mathematics, and a dual PhD in education and psychological counseling, she is the founder and president of Equal Visibility Everywhere (EVE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to shining a spotlight on the glaring under-representation of women in our nation’s symbols—statues, stamps, monuments, street names, currency, and historical markers.

She’s helped secure dozens of Florida State Historical Markers honoring women. In 2024, she took her advocacy even further, writing and championing legislation that requires the State to add 100 new historical markers for women over the next ten years.

Dr. Long’s work isn’t just about recognition—it’s about impact. Before her advocacy work took center stage, Dr. Long taught psychology, education, and mathematics at prestigious institutions. She has written over 20 math books. She coined the phrase “Latchkey Children” and wrote a handbook describing the psychological impact of being a latchkey child after interviewing hundreds of children and their working parents.
Even outside academia and activism, Dr. Lynette Long has curated several museum and public exhibits in Miami Beach to celebrate the accomplishments of women. She heads the Miami Beach Commission for Women.
